R & R SCHOOL OF MUSIC - LESSONS

  R & R SCHOOL OF MUSIC

R & R School of Music has what you want in musical education. Experience, we have it. First established in 1975, R & R School of Music has grown to become one of the largest music teaching facilities in the Delta/Surrey area. We have prepared countless students for careers in music, as teachers and performers. All instructors are carefully chosen to positions on our faculty, each one being a professional musician and teacher, each teacher with his/her degrees and/or experience in music - A.R.C.T., Bachelor of Music, Masters Degree and/or proven professional experience in Studio, T.V., Records and Concerts.

  CHOOSING THE RIGHT MUSIC SCHOOL

One of the Hardest decisions we make in educating our children or ourselves in music is where do you go to get complete and quality instruction. Many years can be wasted with poor or inadequate training. Parents and students should not hesitate to question the qualifications of the school and it's teachers who are instructing. Too many times we take for granted that the people who offer music instruction must be qualified and competent. Nothing could be further from the truth! A degree alone is no assurance of good instruction. A truly professional teacher needs experience not only teaching, but also as a performer, to properly prepare a student to successfully participate in practical examinations, concert performance or just leading a good old singsong.

 PRIVATE INSTRUCTION VS. CLASSES

Much has been debated about this subject. But, let's look at the facts. Each person learns at a different rate, each with his/her own strengths and weaknesses. The bright student put in a class situation usually becomes bored and craves to be challenged and stimulated. The slower student gets lost or left behind, too shy or embarrassed to admit in class that he/she is having trouble. Music instruction is no different. Proper playing technique requires the teacher's constant supervision and correction from the first lesson. We all know how hard it is to break bad habits. A one half hour lesson, completely devoted to one student, is more productive than a one hour lesson in a class where the teacher is trying to divide her/his time between six, ten or more students.

At R & R School of Music, we strongly believe that proper music instruction can only be received with private instruction, and at

R & R School of Music, that is all that is given. The only exception is with Masterclasses, Theory and History courses, that consist mostly of oral and/or written work. This has proven to benefit the student better in a class situation.

 CENTRALLY LOCATED

R & R School of Music is located in the center of Surrey and Delta at 8291 120th Street (Scott Rd.) Delta, BC.

 PROGRAMS

Educators today are emphasizing the importance of students being treated as individuals. Not lumped together within a pre-determined program of material that everybody learns. At R & R School of Music each student is treated as an individual and a different program of instruction is specially created by their instructor for that student. Every student learns what they need as individuals, focusing on their own interests, personality and goals. Students may study their instrument just for pure enjoyment or choose a more serious course of study, through the Royal Conservatory of Music. Examinations are available from Grades 1 to A.R.C.T. including theory, ear training, rudiments, harmony and history requirements. Students are also encouraged but not required to participate in our concerts, or in the many festivals and musical organizations in our community, or form groups of their own.

WHY GO TO A MUSIC SCHOOL?

A good music school can offer the best learning environment for all students. Giving students a chance to interact with other people with a common interest, music. A music school has a broader economic base able to properly fund and present concerts at a professional level. Healthy competition among students that can help to stimulate a higher level of student achievement.
